The main purpose of the "Metal Alert" electronic information exchange system is to demostrate practically that the parties involved in metal trade will not tolerate any public property theft and subsequent destruction of public infrastructure for commercial gain.
This web-based application is designed to prevent metal theft, through the direct transmission of relevant information, making incidents of stolen materials instantly known, publicly, and thus easily recognisable. As a result, such materials may not be sold legally, and thus rendering any stolen metal material commercially valueless.
This service is free, and it offers an innovative metal theft prevention method to the metal recycling industry companies, which are sincerely interested to contribute to the fight against metal theft.
Metal theft victims, as well as the competent law enforcement authorities will be able to enter information on stolen materials, such as description of the material, photographs if any, the place and date of the incident, etc.
Information on metal theft incidents is displayed on your PC monitor in a simple and easily understandable way. The system also provides an advanced search tool through which anyone who is interested may retrieve theft report incidents, using a variety of criteria and/or filters such as the location, the date and time of the incident, the type of material, etc, which has been reported as stolen.
We hope that this initiative will evolve, over time, to a national collaboration of metal recycling companies, relevant public authorities and agencies, and public utility companies, contributing to the joint effort to protect the country's public property and infrastructure.
This collaboration aspires to also, involve all the nongovernmental organizations linked to the recycling industry, so that they can work collectively to reduce crime associated with illegal collection, and distribution of materials containing tradable metals.
