Zero tolerance policy
Zero tolerance policy is the explicit expression of an organisation's will to contribute, with all available means, to combating metal theft. Such policy is implemented utilising specific good practices, some of which are presented below.
Adoption of good practices actively supports the efforts to protect public property and infrastructure. It also contributes to combatting the growing trend of theft and illegal trading of metals in the Greek market.
Many of these practices are widespread in other countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States. Indeed, several of them are based on practices provided by the American Institute of Metal Recycling Industries; and which have proven to significantly help metal recycling companies to comply with the legal framework on metal trading, and thus protect themselves from the adverse consequences of violating the law.
Undoubtedly, the proposed practices may not be fully applied by all metal recycling companies in Greece. However, they constitute a framework from which each company can choose the ones most suitable for its operations with the aim to safeguard against violation of the law by accepting materials of dubious origin.
